How ALCAM Began

Following the tragic death of her brother, William E. Finley, Ava Jacques and her good friend Dr. Laverne Hill committed to organizing scholarships to honor his memory. As educators, both wanted to make sure they left a legacy for "Bill" as he was an avid collegiate. The ideal to honor his memory established Ava and Laverne's Community Action Motivators or ALCAM, an organization created by a group of motivated educators and collegiates who serve their communities with their resources. Through its creation this group has continuously given scholarships to collegiates in order to impact the future of education and celebrate Bills's memory.

As a decorated Army Veteran, college graduate, father, and a treasured member of the Finley family, Bill attended the University of Central Oklahoma, Northern Oklahoma College, and was a very talented guitarist. A Pawhuska native, Bill served both his country, his family, and his fraternity the Beta Eta Lambda of Alpha Phi Alpha faithfully. He succumbed to complications following congestive heart failure in 2020. We keep his memory alive by donating scholarships to deserving students who are attending college in the states of Florida and Oklahoma.
